Electrified Motor, Generator And Battery
Tacoma’s i-FORCE MAX hybrid electric motor uses its Power Control Unit (PCU) to deliver incredible performance and enhanced battery durability. This advanced system fills in the gaps of the torque curve to make it as high and as flat as possible—delivering instant torque and a thrilling drive. And all this potential power is stored in a tried-and-true 288V sealed Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) battery pack that sits strategically under the rear passenger seats.
Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS)
The new Tacoma’s Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) system constantly adjusts compression based on changing road conditions. Available on Limited grades, the front and rear shock absorbers have built-in actuators to optimize damping force, for a refined ride and handling experience on both the asphalt and the dirt.*

You never know what nature is going to throw at you next, and when you’re in the thick of it, Tacoma’s available Multi-Terrain Select helps maintain control by automatically adjusting the engine throttle and traction control. Actionable in both 4WD high and low range, this system allows you to choose from up to six terrain modes to get you through the toughest trails.
ARB® Steel Rear Bumper With Recovery Hooks
Co-developed with ARB®, Tacoma’s available high-clearance steel rear bumper provides additional protection for when the going gets tough. Plus, with integrated recovery hooks mounted to the frame, you’ll have peace of mind that you won’t be stranded when the going gets too tough.
Crawl Control
Acting as a low-speed, off-road cruise control, Tacoma’s available next-generation Crawl Control (CRAWL)* system helps you smoothly and quietly take on tough terrain. This advanced system automatically modulates the throttle and brakes in one of five selectable speeds, allowing you to keep your focus on navigating the obstacle.
Underbody Protection
Sometimes the trail bites back, so all Tacomas come standard with underbody protection. Trailhunter takes it one step further with frame-mounted rock rails as well as steel skid plates protecting the engine, transfer case, rear differential and fuel tank. Because the only thing more important than hitting the trails is being able to confidently return home.
Electronically Locking Rear Differential
When traversing uneven terrain, Tacoma’s available electronically controlled locking rear differential provides increased grip in low-traction conditions. By distributing engine power evenly, it allows the rear wheels to move at the same speed, pushing you up, over and through the obstacle.

Available in either 5-ft. or 6-ft. configurations, Tacoma’s aluminum-reinforced bed is composed of an ultra-durable Sheet-Molded Composite (SMC) surface that is not only strong and resilient, but also lightweight. Plus, cleverly integrated into the bed are a slew of useful available features—like an onboard air compressor, exterior LED scene lighting, and a 2400W AC power supply.*
2400-Watt Power Supply

Pre-Collision System With Pedestrian Detection
Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD)* is designed to help detect a vehicle, pedestrian, bicyclist or motorcyclist and provide an audio/visual forward-collision warning under certain circumstances. If you don’t react, the system is designed to provide automatic emergency braking.
Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
Intended for highway use, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)* is an adaptive cruise control system that is designed to be set at speeds above 20 mph and uses vehicle-to-vehicle distance control to help maintain a preset distance from the vehicle ahead of you.
Lane Departure Alert With Steering Assist
When white/yellow lane markings or certain road-edge boundary lines are detected at speeds above 30 mph, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA)* is designed to issue an audio/visual lane departure warning if an inadvertent lane departure is detected. If the driver does not take corrective action, the system is also designed to provide gentle corrective steering for lane-keeping assistance.
Lane Tracing Assist
When Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)* is enabled and lane markers are detected, Lane Tracing Assist (LTA)* uses the lines on the road and/or preceding vehicles to provide active driving assistance and help keep the vehicle centered in its lane. While LTA is activated, the Emergency Driving Stop System (EDSS)* is designed to use camera recognition and monitor the driver's inputs, such as steering operation. If the EDSS determines the driver is not attentive and the driver does not respond to prompts to resume control of the vehicle, it can bring the vehicle to a stop under certain conditions.
Road Sign Assist
Using an intelligent camera, Road Sign Assist (RSA)* is designed to detect speed limit signs, stop signs, Do Not Enter signs, yield signs and certain warning signs, and display an icon of the sign on the Multi-Information Display (MID).
Automatic High Beams
Automatic High Beams (AHB)* are designed to help you see more clearly at night. At speeds above 21 mph, the AHB system is designed to detect the headlights of oncoming vehicles and taillights of preceding vehicles, then automatically toggle between high and low beams accordingly.
Proactive Driving Assist
When Rear Pedestrian Detection System operating conditions are met, using the vehicle’s camera and radar, Proactive Driving Assist (PDA)* provides gentle braking into curves or gentle braking and/or steering to help support driving tasks such as distance control between your vehicle and a preceding vehicle, pedestrian or bicyclist.

Power Open-and-Close Tailgate
Tacoma’s available power open-and-close tailgate with jam protection* makes loading and unloading your gear a breeze. If your hands are full, just press a button on the key fob or push the taillight switch on either side of the vehicle to open and close, or simply let the knee-lift assist close the tailgate for you.
Blind Spot Monitor With Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
Tacoma's available Blind Spot Monitor (BSM)* is designed to warn you when a vehicle in the next lane enters your blind spot on either side of the vehicle. When the system detects a trailer is being towed, the BSM extends the area of detection and alert in consideration of the trailer. And when you're reversing out of a tight spot, available Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA)* helps detect vehicles approaching from either side, warning you with side mirror indicators and a warning tone. Altogether, Tacoma's advanced driver assistance and convenience technologies bring added peace of mind to every journey.
